Winner of UK's First 'TwiCV' Competition Announced | 14th September 2010
Competition highlights benefits of Twitter for job seekers
The winner of the UK's first competition to tweet your CV in 140 characters or less has been announced today, along with findings that suggest condensing your CV could help in the hunt for the right job. MyJobGroup.co.uk, the UK's largest network of regional job boards, launched the competition following analysis of 500 CVs that showed extensive repetition and clichés.
As a result, the leading job board asked members of the public to tweet their own or a spoof celeb CV in 140 characters or less using the fast-growing social media platform of Twitter, forcing entrants to use original and concise information to demonstrate their employability.
With over 200 entries, the competition winner, Diane from Blackpool, scooped the prize of a new iPad with the winning spoof CV for her 15 year-old son:
- "My 15 yr old son: Part time work required. Likes: Money, designer clothes, eating and girls. Dislikes: Work of any description. #TwiCV"
The competition also yielded humorous spoof CVs of famous celebs, including:
- "Cheryl Cole: Got X Factor, suit job reading announcements in tube stations - she has that sound of the underground #TwiCV"
- "Ewan McGregor: Previously a Trainspotter, want to become a Big Fish without going the Long Way Round. No desire to be a Rogue Trader. #TwiCV"
- "Buzz Lightyear: May only be a toy but has plenty of stories. A star at commanding attention, he will take the firm to infinity & beyond! #TwiCV"

Lee Fayer, Managing Director of MyJobGroup.co.uk, said: "We were thrilled with the response to our TwiCV competition and how people have thought afresh about how to present themselves to prospective employers.
"In this competitive jobs market, it's essential that job seekers put themselves ahead of the competition by writing original and attention-grabbing CVs and covering letters. In the limited space of 140 characters that Twitter offers, job seekers have the ideal opportunity to cut the waffle and get straight to the point of why they'd make excellent employees.
"We'd also like to congratulate Diane from Blackpool who won the overall prize for the best TwiCV. We've compiled all the entries and they can be viewed on our site; hopefully this will provide inspiration for all those looking to sell themselves with only a few words to play with."
